Weekend Plans 6/29 - 7/1

Happy weekend everyone! I hope you had a great Friday. I spent the day with my mom. We went out to breakfast and saw Brave with every single child that lives in a 10 mile radius of that movie theater. Haha. Let's just say I couldn't easily blend in as a abnormally tall fifth grader. Oh well. Embarrassment aside, the movie was so cute. My favorite part was the three second appearance of a few balls of yarn. Watch for it if you see the movie! :)

As always, I am so ready for a few days of crafty fun. Here are my plans...

1. I am having a mini-marathon of some of my favorite Nora Ephron movies. I was so sad to hear the news of her death this week. Her writing and films have always been an inspiration to me. And yes, that is a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils. Every time I see You've Got Mail I desperately want a boy to send me bouquets of sharpened pencils. I don't know why I find that line so romantic. Here are a few of my favorite quotes:

Joe Fox - "Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address."

George - "I'm going to get some eucalyptus candles 'cause it makes my apartment smell moss-ay!"

Kathleen Kelley - "What will NY152 say today, I wonder. I turn on my computer. I wait impatiently as it connects. I go online, and my breath catches in my chest until I hear three little words: You've got mail. I hear nothing. Not even a sound on the streets of New York, just the beating of my own heart. I have mail. From you."

2. I've been working on crochet Christmas ornaments for my Etsy shop this week! It's never too early to get a start on the holidays, right?

3. Since some wool I ordered last week still hasn't arrived (ugh) for a project I planned to start over the weekend, I thought I would try a few of the embroidery patterns in the latest issue of Mollie Makes. I am definitely addicted to embroidery already. Hopefully I can add a few decent looking embroidered cakes to a tea towel or something.

That is pretty much it! I hope you have a lovely weekend! What do you have planned?

  1. I just saw Brave today with my parents, and I noticed the yarn, too! :) Such a cute movie.

You've Got Mail is one of my favorite films. I adore the bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils quote, too, as well as so many others from the movie. Plus the soundtrack is awesome- I listen to it all the time. :) Have you ever seen "The Shop Around the Corner," which is the original film YGM is based on (starring Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullivan), or the Judy Garland/Van Johnson musical remake "In the Good Old Summertime"? Both of them are so lovely.

  2. Oooh I just love the ornaments! I really want to see brave! Perhaps I'll see that this weekend. I have the same hair as the main character so I'm going to try to convince any of the kiddo's that are there that I am her!
This weekend I hope to finish the scarf I started months ago, write a giveaway post for my blog, and watch Jurassic park with my boyfriend. I know they aren't very lofty goals but it sounds like a good time to me :)
    Have a great weekend!

  4. I did not hear of Nora's passing - we've lost a creative wonder. I think I will pay homage to her this weekend as well. I love "You've Got Mail" - the banter is extraordinary! I admit to laughing out loud when reading "moss-ay"... such a great movie.

It's also a relief to hear that I wasn't the only one having a nerdgasm when the three balls of yarn appeared on the screen... lol. My husband giggled and kissed my head when I let out and audible gasp and "ooooo" at seeing them.

It sounds like you have a wonderful weekend planned - I'm reclaiming my quiet and creative time this weekend. It has slipped away with the onset of summer and our return from holiday but I have instilled quiet time with Hobbit from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. - her reward after is an episode of Doctor Who and my reward during is 2 hours of uninterrupted crafting. It's a win-win.

  6. I noticed the yarn in Brave, too! The Mister and I saw it at midnight with some friends and we could not stop gushing about Merida's completely fantastic hair.

Sleepless in Seattle has been one of my favorite movies since it came out, and her movies have just kept being awesome. I was so sad about her passing, too :(

  9. Hello Meredith, I have been following your blog for a little while now, and love it! So sad about Norah Ephron ~ Sleepless in Seattle and You've got Mail are in my movie library and each time I watch them I fall in love with the characters more and more ~ so I think I will pay tribute to a most talented and funny lady this weekend too, crochet hook and wool in hand. I am making an afghan rug with a group on Ravelry at the moment - it has been great fun! Have a fab weekend :)

  10. You've got mail is my all time favourite movie and one of the very few I bought from Amazon some years ago! I too didn't know Nora Ephron died, maybe that's the reason they are showing You've got mail once again on our TV on Sunday night.
Love your blog, I am new here. But your header is amazing!

  14. Looks like you will have a fun weekend! I had so much planned for my own weekend, and a freak storm caused a major power outage all over Columbus, so I am scrambling to get stuff done. Anyway, those ornaments look super cute! Also, I saw Brave last night, too (what else can we do when there is no power at home?) and I couldn't help but notice the yarn, too. How fun and awesome.

  16. Julie and Julia is such an awesome movie! I love watching it while I'm making things, so inspiring! Your ornaments are absolutely adorable! Are you making your ornaments out of embroidery floss? Is that hard to crochet with?
