Happy Independence Day! I hope you have a wonderful day celebrating with friends and family. I baked my first blueberry pie yesterday afternoon for our celebration. I've never baked a pie on the Fourth of July before even though it is a pretty standard, all-American thing to do. It's just so hot in Texas, the thought of eating a warm pie in the middle of summer never appealed to me. I think the combination of ice cream and blueberry pie will forever change my mind. You can find the recipe
here.
I'm ready to spend the rest of the day in the pool and then drive out to watch fireworks tonight. Oh, and play with sparklers of course! Sparklers are my favorite.
What are you up to today? Did you bake or craft something new too?
Oh my it looks so delicious! You are so crafty & awesome!

Your pie turned out wonderful Meredith! I thought it was funny that you mentioned making that pie the same day I picked up the Food Network magazine containing the recipe. I made a apple pie for my 4th of July celebration. Here's a link to my blog post about it http://constantlyblooming.blogspot.com/2012/07/making-tradtitions-4th-of-july-pie.html . Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteaw your little ingredient photo was so adorable! I made a blue berry pie today too, erh, tried to make a blueberry pie....I used Heidi Swansons recipe for blueberry lemon verbena pie with a rye crust.....I think my kitchen was too hot because my dough was terrible looking hah. It called for a double crust but I ended up scrapping it and just throwing the blueberries in with some maple and cinnamon...hah. It tasted good...and that is what matters hah!
ReplyDeleteYummy! I lovee sparklers too, but unfortunately fireworks are prohibited in the county I live in... :( The fireworks at the fair are always so fun to watch though!
ReplyDeleteThis cake looks soo yummy! :) I have to bake something this weekend. My boyfriend already made an order. ;)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE sparkles by the way too. They're just so fun and not as scary as real firework. (Had to look up "sparkles" btw, now I've learned a new word. :D)
Naturally we don't celebrate the 4th of July in Germany, so I did nothing special (apart from relaxing after work on our terrace).
Best wishes! :)
I meant sparkleRs! :)
DeleteLooks great. Thanks for doing a step by step.
ReplyDeleteThe blueberry pie looks great! Together with ice cream it sounds like the perfect summer baking adventure :)
ReplyDeleteI recently made French madeleines - sooo good! Next I wanna try to make macarons... can't resist colorful summer treats :)
Oh yum-- I really need to make this now, I want some of those yummy buttery crumbles! That looks absolutely delicious. I spent the fourth of July spinning yarn on my new Ladybug spinning wheel, yay!

Looks so yummy - must give this a go! x
ReplyDeleteYou are always baking such delicious desserts. Makes me want to get into the kitchen every single time. We didn't do much holiday-type stuff, but did do some crafting. The fella and I created a cardboard letter and then covered it with yarn for our baby girl's room (due in september). It's only some of the first of our crafting for little lady and was a great way to spend some of our free day.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I just don't like blueberries. They seem to be universally adored, but I just can't stand them. I do, however, like anything with a buttery, crumbly crust! Your photos are always so bright and simple, I just love them!

ReplyDeleteThis looks so great! I love a twist on a classic recipe.
