Who wants to float away in a colorful, flying balloon house with me? Only for a few days, of course.
I released my inner child this weekend and watched Pixar's "Up", one of my favorite animated movies. Have you seen it? Aside from the incredibly depressing first ten minutes, this movie always lifts my spirits. I love the idea of chasing your dreams at any age while simultaneously learning to let go of the past. I can definitely relate to that message right now. It makes me want to jump up and start filling in the pages of my own "adventure book". ;)
During the movie, I started stitching this page in my journal and couldn't be happier with the result. My favorite scene is when Carl releases all of the balloons for the first time and the screen is flooded with color. I tried to capture some of that color with my own stitched balloons. Whenever I turn to this page in my journal I will always be reminded that...
"Adventure is out there!"
The pages of my notebook are becoming increasingly filled with bits of thread and I love it.
Do you have a favorite animated movie too?
Have a great day!

Oh hon, I'm simply in love with your journal page stitching and I think this one is my favorite! I have to agree...UP is a fantastic movie with a great little message.
ReplyDeleteThis is so perfect. My husband is obsessed with that movie!
ReplyDeleteUp is AMAZING!!! I love animate movies but my favourite has to be Despicable Me, it's so funny! Also that embroidery is very cute :).

Thank you Rachael! Despicable Me is so cute! I love Steve Carell.
DeleteI love this! So pretty! I tried embroidering on paper for a while but I was too impatient I kept ripping it. I have had the embroidery urge again lately though! it's been about a year since I last did some and I used to be obsessed with it.. might get my threads out soon! :)
ReplyDeleteI saw UP last summer, it's a really sweet film.
xxBeth
It takes a lot of patience but it is really fun. Definitely try it again soon! :)
DeleteThis is lovely, such a pretty idea. I love Alice in wonderland, crazy but a classic. Sarah x
ReplyDeleteOh I love Alice too! So magical.
DeleteUP is definitely one of my faves! If I can get through the beginning without crying my eyes out ;) I love this embroidery - so charming. It would make the perfect cover for a journal :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Amanda! I love the journal cover idea! :)
DeleteI commented on Twitter but had to leave a comment here to say this is so beautiful and such a wonderful idea!

this looks so cute and colourful - you clearly have a natural talent for embroidery! I've not seen Up, it got released when I worked at a cinema and I tried to spend as little time there outside of working! Everyone always says i missed out tho, might have to catch it on lovefilm X
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Annie! Yes, definitely see it. It is such a lovely movie!
DeleteI love this so much!! Would you consider selling this? Or making another one just like it and selling it?? I would love to frame something like this in my house because I have no sewing skills whatsoever and I find this incredibly beautiful! If you would be interested you can email me @ kaitlinbartlett999@pointloma.edu. :) thank you!!
ReplyDeleteHi Kaitlin! Aww thank you! I will email you soon! :)

ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteOh my days this is AMAZING!!!! I love your embroidered pages so much. . . .plus UP is one of my favs too, along with How to train your dragon at the moment:)
ReplyDeleteJess x
Thank you Jess! I haven't seen How to Train Your Dragon yet. I've heard good things about it though!
DeleteUp was an absolutely beautiful movie I agree (although with you on the first 10 minutes = tear-jerking!).
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable! I've been wanting to embroider a piece similar to this ever since I watched the movie again several months ago.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite animated movie is Beauty and the Beast. :) But I'm a Disney fanatic and love so many. The people at Pixar are geniuses! The quality of their films is incredible compared to others. My favorite Pixar film is Monsters, Inc., and some of my other (non-Pixar) favorite animated movies are Tangled, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and the beautiful old Disney classics.

Beauty and the Beast was my absolute favorite movie as a child. I watched it at least twice a week when I was four. Haha. I agree with you about Pixar! Their creativity is astounding!
DeleteThis is absolutely adorable! What a sweet, cute little journal page :)

one of my favorite animated films is howl's moving castle by hayao miyazaki. if you haven't seen it you should; most any studio ghibli film is great to check out, but especially this one! miyazaki has a great ability to create a visually appealing environment that evokes a sense of nostalgia- even if it's nothing like your own past. his films also leave you feeling upbeat and positive, much like you described up!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the recommendation! I will definitely check it out.
DeleteThis is awesome! LOVE that movie so much too. I don't know how you've managed to keep your paper so uncreased? =)
ReplyDeleteEeek! This is so sweet!! :) I love 'Up'. I saw 'Brave' recently and loved it - such a great girl-power story...I'm 27 and I was touched. :) he he.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle! I loved 'Brave' too!
DeleteFun! I absolutely love that film. It's my favorite Pixar :)
ReplyDeleteI love all your paper embroidery! This one is sooo pretty! Up is a great movie and you captured the colors well! :)
ReplyDeleteI just adore this idea, such a great way to get some embroidery practice! I also love love love UP! Definitely one of my favorites - but you're so right, the first 10 minutes are horrible :/

ReplyDeleteLove "Up" too, such a great movie! :) Even though the beginning is heartbreaking. :*( My boyfriend is so cute, he couldn't get over the beginning and is always talking about "Up" as a drama or sad movie. :D
Have a lovely day! :)
This is so sweet! I love Up so much! But, I think my favorite animated movie is Beauty and the Beast. I've always loved it. :)

First off: this made me smile so much. Such gorgeous, gorgeous embroidery.
ReplyDeleteFavorite animated movies: Up and Wall-E for sure. I walked down the aisle to "Put on Your Sunday Clothes" and at our reception, we had 500 multi-colored balloons tied to chairs instead of flower arrangements. You can see the photos here (scroll down): http://bit.ly/hhYuZk
My husband and I are building a tiny house for us to live in and when it's finished, we'll be putting dozens of multi-colored balloons on the roof and taking a ton of pictures. :-D
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite animated movie will always be The Lion King. ;)
I can't believe you made this. Absolutely perfect! I wish I could float away in a home like this.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, as all your projects are :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love that film, it's so heartwarming, funny and adorable. I love your little stitch-doodle that you made inspired by the movie!

ReplyDeleteI've been loving your journal entries for a while now but this is definitely my favorite, I love Up! Have you seen the "Up Baby" halloween costume?! It's too cute, if your a fan of the movie, google that pic!
ReplyDeleteI love Wall-e. Such a great story.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I stumbled across this yarn bombing post and thought it was so cute. She crocheted 'book' worms and hid them around libraries... genius....

I love this so much. Is it ok if I sort of copy it on a journal page? Also, what do you do with the backside of your pages that have embroidery on them? Are they still useful? Just wanted to let you know that this is one of the most beautiful blogs I've seen. I'm a fan!
